Finding good in the pain

The crucifixion is Friday. At least we remember it Friday.

Sometimes I forget that in following Christ my own suffering and death is required. I do not call my pain Good, so it seems odd to call Christ’s pain Good Friday. Good comes from pain, but sometimes I forget that pain really hurts.

Something goes out of us in pain — confidence in ourselves, pride in ourselves, a sense of wellbeing. But pain takes something out of us so that something else can come in — love, compassion, humility, forgiveness of others, and hope.
