This morning a friend and I were having breakfast and the topic came up about the lack of civility in our political a discourse today, and he makes a great point. It actually caused me to think about my own way that I speak about things I’m passionate about, and so I think it is good for us to think about this during such a time of . . . animosity between political parties, political people who took different, political views. . . .

I recalled something I wrote myself a year or so ago. Sometimes you have to keep reminding yourself of things even though you’ve written them once. You’ve got to keep reminding yourself, and there are three things I wrote about civility.

First of all, I said, based on scripture — Ephesians 4. Speak truthfully. Verse 25 says:

So then putting away falsehood that all of us speak the truth to our neighbors but we are members of one another.

We are all connected, especially those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ

Second, be careful with anger. Verses 26 and 27 say:

Be angry but do not sin. Do not let the Sun go down on your anger and do not make room for the devil.

We are going to get angry when we see certain things going on in our lives. Different things make different people angry. Hopefully, those of us are Christ’s followers are made angry by the things that anger God. The important thing is how do we deal with our anger. Do not let our anger lead to sin

And the third point is be careful with our language Ephesians 4 chapter verse 29 says:

Let no evil talk come out of your mouths but only what is useful for building up as there is need so that our words may give grace to those who hear.

That is a great word, I think. Not let any evil talk come out of our mouths.

My prayer is that I will be more faithful and lifting up Jesus Christ and the

things that are of concern to God, as expressed in Scripture. And that I will be more loving and caring to those to whom I speak.

I hope you have a great day
