The cross and resurrection figure large in our thoughts right now, and I struggle with how to pray. I decided to follow an ancient practice and “pray the Scriptures.” It’s a matter of letting the words of Scripture guide us as we pray.
I have decided to use Jesus’ last prayer for His followers to shape my prayers this week.
Jesus to the Father:
Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them (vv. 25-26).
A prayer to the Father today:
Righteous Father, much of our world still does not know you, but Jesus knew you and made it possible for us to know You. And we know You sent Jesus to reconcile the world to Yourself. Help us to make Your name known more broadly and more clearly. And, Lord, help us to love with the depth of sacrificial love that drove Jesus to the cross and that raised Him from death. Amen.
